Contemplating Earth Every Day

So, how to contemplate on Earth Day? I was reminded in many ways on various media that today, April 22nd, was Earth Day. It does not mean tomorrow will not be Earth Day, yes?

Contemplation is being connected with our experience of the moment. What is Earth in our experience? Earth is the force field we all walk in, talk in, sleep in, every moment we are alive. Even those who have gone into space have been tethered on to Earth (ok may be the few who went to the Moon. But then we will contemplate on Moon, soon). We gave Her force field a name: gravity. And by giving our experience a name, we distanced ourselves, broke the contemplative action. Which is the hunger that drives us to declare something Earth Day and use more words and distance ourselves even more in the confusion.

When you sit for contemplation, and go into Dharana, where are you? If not in Earth's loving embrace? Yes, she gives us our food too. And our energy. And channels the water we need. All through Her force field. And from time to time, She shakes things up just a bit! She makes sure the air we need to breathe is around us, not flying away into space!

Well, actually the shell we walk around in, our body, is nothing but Her parts shaped together to make each one unique too! And when comes time to give up the shell, it goes back to Her.

So every day spend at least a few minutes to sit and contemplate: She is the Mother in whose embrace you always are. And the Mother does not ask for a day in Her name. She is there for you always, as long as you are breathing. The umbilical cord with Mother Earth is never severed.

Art in Relationships

We see art as a sketch, a painting. A sculpture. That is visual art. So is creative writing, though with audio of the creative prose and poetry, it makes can make its impression on us through sounds.Performance art is more complex: it makes an impression on us visually and through sounds. Whether it is live music, dance, theatre or film - and all of it as video. Through the art we tell ourselves a story, a mix of what the artist wants to to tell us, perhaps, overlaid on stories that we already carry in us. The artist leaves an impression with us.

In relationships we create and leave impressions on each other. Only in the case of relationships, the canvas is multi-fold: our body, our emotions and our intellect come into play when we create and leave impressions on each other. We do it each time when we interact and relate with each other - in the myriad roles we play in our families, in our romances, with friends, at work, at business and at play.

What is we were to see relationships as being a creative process of leaving impressions on each other? What if we were to create and leave peaceful and calm, energizing and fulfilling impressions through our art work in relationships?

Would that be art in the realm of relationships?

Three Pre Requisites to Study of Advaita

There are 3 requirements that are a pre-requisite for study of Advaita teachings. These arise from the psychological constitution of humans -- nothing mysterious here.

Here’s an example. Humans require two legs to be able to walk considerable distances. That is the physiological nature of humans and how they are able to navigate their body by overcoming gravity (vertical constraint) and any vertical obstacles they may come across.

Learning Advaita teachings requires focused concentration for long periods of time to observe and listen to subtle logical statements and then experiment with using those statements as tools to reflect upon and deconstruct mental models that we use all the time while interacting with the world. Deconstructing these models allows you to detach from false scripts of what is success and failure, of likes and dislikes, of greed and fear. Advaita Life Practice gives you the ability to develop and deepen:

1. An inner drive to spend time and energy in inquiry about one’s own nature, therefore empowering yourself to act positively without fear or greed.

2. Ability to prioritize time / making time available by minimizing distracting activities.

Sustained periods of introspective reflection help with growth in the external world. This is possible in your life--even just for ten minutes a day--in the busiest and most overworked lives in the 21st Century. If you have time to read this, you have time to spend to go within yourself.

3. Using time efficiently for reflection and deconstruction of accumulated, often confusing mental models towards a greater understanding of our place and path in this lifetime, so we can be the best and most balanced versions of ourselves.

Advaita Life Coaching will teach you how to seed, nourish and cultivate the accomplishments of these three requirements, so that the Advaita aspirant may undertake the study of Advaita teachings successfully. ALC does not claim to offer the study of Advaita teachings themselves. Rather we fully prepare and equip the aspirant to begin the study of Advaita teachings.

A by-product of such preparatory internal development and activity is an ability to lead a more productive and effective day to day life. Participate in Advaita Life Coaching for six months: you will be more in control of yourself and your environment.

Awakening to Daily Experience: Letting Go and Re-Inventing

Aham-kara (the I-ness) is something that arises as I awake. For the first few microseconds of waking there is no sense of being separate.

Then the Aham vibration arises and suddenly there is a distinction between I, the experiencer, and all that I experience through my bodily senses.

But that experience still makes no sense. So for the next few micro seconds I know now that I am separate from the experience. But I do not have any sense of what that experience is. It has no names and therefore no forms and no meanings.

Then the I, the Aham, connects with Memories.

The Memories rise / connect fully and I am "fully awake" now. Jagrut.

The Memories connect a profile to the Aham: Who I am, What I am, What I have done in the past, What I am supposed to do today. All of the Memories with its names and forms dawn on the Aham, connect with the I.

The I, the Ahamkara, is now fully risen and has an identity that is ready for action.

The Actor gets ready to act in the theater of the day.

With streams of meaning-full thoughts cascading down, providing scripts for the day.

The Sadhaka, the spiritual striver, takes time to contemplate. It is very hard work to slow down in the face of the torrent of thoughts waiting to be acted out.

But contemplation every morning is a must.

Contemplating to let go of some of the thoughts, which want to be the scripts of the day.

Re-inventing others and re-focusing the day’s scripts so that today also ends up being one more small step towards Vairagya, distancing from likes and dislikes, the slow and steady giving up of desires, fears, narrow identities.

One more day, one more small step towards Anant Ananda: ever -lasting Joy.

When Life Gives You Mercury Retrograde: February 6th – February 28th 2014

We practice the Sidereal tradition of Vedic astrology -- an ancestral interpretation of the planets that was passed down to late grandfather and now to my father. This is study of different planetary and star-pulls of our Universe in relationship to each of our own personal constellations. The following is a general analysis -- birth chart analysis is much more in-depth, multidimensional, and specific. If you are interested in that work, let me know. It is a great experience and modality of self-study.

The planetary impact is based on where your Ascendant was when you were born, in the Sidereal Jyotish astrology. If you do not know where your Ascendant is, you can connect with me and I will get it to you. We want to spread a sense of control over our own destinies. It benefits all of us.

Aries: Feb 6th to 18th is a time to visit with older siblings, mentors from the past, and check in with long term investments.

Feb 19th to 28th be careful about making any moves about your career and social status. Watch what you say and how your words fall at work or in social settings.

Taurus: Feb 6th to 18th is a time to be cautious about your social standing both at work and play: minimize being defensive under perceived attacks. Feb 19th – 28th would likely find you in touch with father figures and ethical questions, in some apparently tense situations.
